National Assessors in Health and Social Care
Introduction
National Assessors role is to provide guidance to employers when recruiting and selecting Grade 8c (old Grade B) and above Consultant Psychologists. Assessors provide advice early in the recruitment and selection process for vacancies and new roles. Contacting Assessors early is essential to ensure that they can provide advice throughout the recruitment process. Assessors should be involved in the whole recruiting process, including defining job descriptions, considering person specifications, reviewing Knowledge and Skills outlines, advising on job advertisements, participating in the interview process and providing feedback to unsuccessful applicants.
Two Assessors should be contacted, one Assessor must be from the clinical speciality or division where the post is being recruited, the other Assessor may be from another clinical speciality or division. However, both Assessors must be from outside of the recruiting Trust or organisation.
In order to find an Assessor you may search from a list of over 200 voluntary National Assessors covering the UK. All of the Assessors adhere to a set of British Psychological Society guidelines for the selection and recruitment of Senior and Consultant Psychologist Posts in Health and Social Care, which also provide a good outline of the recruitment and selection process. An on-line copy is available below, however, it should be noted that these are currently being revised to reflect the changes made following Agenda for Change.
