This new page has been designed to provide a brief update on some of main points to come out of our Committee meetings. It is by no means a comprehensive account, but is an attempt to provide an update on our recent, often behind-the-scenes, activities that are of potential interest to Branch members. We hope you find it helpful and would welcome any feedback you may have.
30 October 2008, 16:30 meeting & evening AGM
We were honoured to have the BPS President, Elizabeth Campbell in attendance at our meeting, and later providing her presentation on 'Psychological Aid for Victims of Terrorism' (review planned for the next newsletter).
Although we had advertised for a shadow secretary, we did not receive any pre-meeting nominations for this position or any other. The one change in officers this year is a new (temporary!) Honorary Secretary, Ming Wai Wan. Ming Wai was also Secretary in 2003-05. Congratulations goes to Katherine Cartmell who kindly offered to share the post even though she has a little one on the way. Talk about dedication!
The Committee welcomed a new cohort of Committee members. We will be updating our 'Meet the Committee' page in due course.
There is an initial plan to organise a psychology careers event for 2009 in Manchester. Aimed at undergraduates and sixth formers, our all-day careers events in the past have been hugely popular, and our new, more focused, format last year in Chester proved to be successful. Watch this space!
Our forensic psychology event, which runs annually in collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University, has been provisionally planned for the end of February 2009. Watch this space!
