Promoting public appreciation of Paralympic athletes with learning disabilities
A new video produced with the help of a public engagement grant from the Society is helping the public understand the classification rules for athletes with intellectual disabilities taking part in the London 2012 Paralympics.
The video features Chartered Psychologist Professor Jan Burns from Canterbury Christ Church University who is the Head of Eligibility for INAS – the International Federation for sport for para-athletes with an intellectual disability. It also includes interviews with athletes and officials involved in the Games.
You can watch the video on this website.
Professor Burns was interviewed about her work on the BBC Radio 4 Today programme last week and was also recently in Nature. In May she and her team at Canterbury Christ Church won an award for their work on the Games, triumphing over 230 other nominated projects.
