We oppose preparation workbooks for children taking psychological tests

18 July 2017

The Society has been made aware that tutorial workbooks, purporting to prepare children for specific psychometric tests used in educational settings, are available for sale.

Responding to this news, Martin Fisher, chair of our Committee for Test Standards, said:

“The British Psychological Society does not support the use of test-preparation workbooks and firmly believes that it is in a child’s best interests to undertake such tests without any prior preparation or training.

This is to ensure that an accurate assessment of the child’s learning requirements can be made and appropriate support and help given as and when applicable and relevant.”
