Guidelines on the use of Electronic Health Records (2011)

07 December 2016

Electronic Health (EHR) or Clinical Records are increasingly being implemented in the NHS and other organisations to record, store and process health-related information.

It is the intention of the Department of Health that the contents of these Electronic Health Records will be available to be accessed, added to, and commented upon by service users as well as by staff with appropriate access rights.

The introduction of these records raises several potential professional and ethical concerns for both service users and clinicians.

As such this document has been produced to address the Society's stance towards both the general issues and those which may be specific to psychologists, and is intended to provide advice and assistance with regards to the professional, ethical, and legal responsiiblities of members who are required to use and contribute to these records.
