Distinguished Contribution Award

Nominees should be members of the Division of the Sport & Exercise Psychology (DSEP) who have made a distinguished contribution to the field of Sport & Exercise Psychology in any relevant area (e.g., research, applied consultancy, education).  The award will be presented to the successful nominee at the Division’s Conference. The award recipient may be asked to deliver a keynote lecture or speech at the conference.

Please note
i)    Both referees must be Full Members of the Division of Sports & Exercise with voting rights.
ii)   It is essential that referees secure the explicit consent of the nominee before submitting the completed nomination form.

Using the online nomination form the following information is required:

  1. Name, title, organisation/affiliation, BPS membership number, contact telephone and email address of the nominee(s)
  2. Name, title, organisation/affiliation, BPS membership number, contact telephone and email address of the nominator(s)​
  3. Name, title, organisation/affiliation, BPS membership number, contact telephone and email address of the referee(s)
  4. Key achievements of nominee (1000 words in narrative format)
  5. Supporting documentary evidence (if appropriate)

MSc Award

This annual prize recognises the best MSc dissertation submitted by a DSEP member. Research on any aspect of sport and exercise psychology is eligible.

The recpient of this award will receive £200. And their registration fees will also be covered should they present their research at the DSEP Annual Conference within two years of receiving the award. 

Using the online nomination form the following information is required:

  1. Name, title, organisation/affiliation, BPS membership number, contact telephone and email address of the nominee(s)
  2. Enter N/A in the nominator(s) fields
  3. Enter N/A in the referee(s) fields
  4. Key achievements of nominee - enter N/A
  5. Supporting documentary evidence (one attachment only), to include letter of support and extended abstract.

Deadline: 11.59pm on Monday 5 June 2017 (EXTENDED)


PhD Award

This annual prize is awarded to a PhD student whose thesis is regarded to be an exceptional, and innovative contribution to knowledge in the field. Research on any aspect of sport and exercise psychology is eligible.

The recpient of this award will receive £300. And their registration fees will also be covered should they present their research at the DSEP Annual Conference within two years of receiving the award. 

The winner will also be invited to submit an article from their PhD for publication in the Sport and Exercise Psychology Review. This article would be subject to the normal review process.

Using the online nomination form the following information is required:

  1. Name, title, organisation/affiliation, BPS membership number, contact telephone and email address of the nominee(s)
  2. Enter N/A in the nominator(s) fields
  3. Enter N/A in the referee(s) fields
  4. Key achievements of nominee - enter N/A

H.T.A. Whiting Undergraduate Dissertation Prize

This annual prize recognises the best undergraduate dissertation submitted by a DSEP member. The award is given in honour of the late H.T.A. Whiting. Research on any aspect of sport and exercise psychology is eligible.

The recpient of this award will receive £100. And their registration fees will also be covered should they present their research at the DSEP Annual Conference.

Using the online nomination form the following information is required:

  1. Name, title, organisation/affiliation, BPS membership number, contact telephone and email address of the nominee(s)
  2. Enter N/A in nominator(s) fields
  3. Enter N/A in referee(s) fields
  4. Key achievements of nominee - enter N/A

International Conference Symposium Scheme

Grants are available to support British Psychological Society Member Networks to convene a symposium at an international conference.  The grants are offered under the Research Board’s international strategy and seek to increase the visibility of UK psychology and showcase the strengths of UK academic psychology.  Each grant provides between £1,500 and £3,500 to contribute towards the costs of registration, travel and accommodation for the symposium convenor/moderator and symposium panellists to participate in the symposium.

Deadlines: 1 May and 1 November
