Student committee terms of reference

Terms of Reference:

  1. To represent Student Members Committee of the Society in matters pertaining to education and discipline specific policy at the Education & Public Engagement Board (EPEB). 
  2. To provide student members of the Society with national representation by means of the Student Members Committee (outlined below). 
  3. To promote national communication between student members through meetings, conferences, newsletters and the internet. 
  4. To promote international links with psychology students and associations world-wide. 
  5. To advise the EPEB in matters pertaining to the support and development of student membership.

Committee

The Student Members Committee will consist of the following members with specific designated responsibilities.

ChairTo chair all meetings of the Student Members Committee and to attend Education & Public Engagement Board (EPEB). 
Deputy ChairTo support the Chair and to act as alternate if required.
Chair ElectTo sit for one year prior to the end of the Chair’s term of office. 
Assistant Psych-Talk Editor To assist with editing and production of Psych-Talk (3 issues per academic year); encourage contributions. 
International Officer and EFPSA representativeTo liaise with EFPSA and represent the committee at its meetings; to represent the committee on the International Committee; other international matters; organise delegation to the EFPSA congress; submit a report on the EFPSA congress 
Representative for Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland Representation for each of the devolved nations and the issues relating to psychology education specific to those administrations. Representatives must be enrolled with an institution in the devolved nation they are representing. 
PsyPAG Representative on Student Group Committee (observer) Liaison with PsyPAG 
Ordinary Members (up to three) Vacancies for up to three ordinary members to undertake various commitments and provide representations on issues relating to psychology education to the committee.
Branch Committee Student Reps To ensure liaison between branches and the central committee, to provide mutual support and avoid duplication.

Appointments to the Student Members Committee

The EPEB will appoint the Chair Elect of the student committee.  All other appointments will be made by the committee with the Chair making the final decision.  Appointments will be ratified by EPEB under its review of Boards and Committees under the aegis of the Board (usually the October meeting).

Term of office

Each term of office is usually for three years, except Chair Elect which is for one year only.  However, the EPEB recognises that student members may take office in the later years of their studies.  Applicants will therefore indicate their preferred length of term on their statement of interest forms.  This will be recorded by the advisor and vacancies advertised as appropriate.

Conduct of committee meetings

Please refer to the Code of Conduct for Members undertaking activities on behalf of the Society document for details.

Quorum

Five members.  If an individual meeting is not quorate, then business can be conducted and proposals considered, but decisions will either be deferred until such time as a quorate meeting convenes, or will be taken by Chair's action.
