Lifetime achievement award goes to outstanding Professor

An internationally recognised figure in the field of coaching psychology has been recognised for his outstanding and continued contribution by The British Psychological Society’s Special Group in Coaching Psychology.

Kent-based Professor Stephen Palmer received the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his extensive work in developing and promoting the coaching psychology profession at the European Coaching Psychology Conference, on 17 December 2008.

"Without Professor Palmer we would not have the level of development that we see today in the UK in the area of coaching psychological practice and research", said Dr Alison Whybrow, Chair of the Special Group in Coaching Psychology.

"Stephen led the development of the coaching psychology profession in the UK; he has provided focus, energy and commitment to ensure the establishment of a recognised and robust coaching psychology profession. We are very pleased to present Stephen with this award and to welcome him as a keynote speaker at our 1st European Coaching Psychology Conference."

Professor Palmer said: "It's an honour and privilege to receive this award from the BPS Special Group in Coaching Psychology. It was good teamwork that helped to establish coaching psychology in the UK and I would like to take this opportunity to thank my colleagues for their unstinting support and hard work in its development."

Professor Palmer continues, "The 1st European Coaching Psychology Conference will allow psychologists throughout Europe to network and discuss how coaching psychology as a profession and discipline can develop across Europe in an integrated manner. I will consider some of the issues concerned in my keynote speech at the conference."

The 1st European Coaching Psychology Conference was held at Westminster, London on 17 and 18 December 2008.
