The British Psychological Society Social Psychology Section Annual Conference 2001

The British Psychological Society’s Social Psychology Section Annual Conference 2001 took place on 18-20 July, at the Social Psychology European Research Institute, University of Surrey, Guildford.

The conference was part of the Society’s Centenary year celebrations, and played host to some of the most established academic thinkers in social psychology.

Included in the programme are 18 symposia, more than 50 individual papers, and five round table discussions on current theoretical debates in the field.

Keynote speakers from the UK, Belgium and the USA were joined by academics from Australia, France, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland.

Among the subjects included in the programme were:

  • National and political identity
  • Prejudice and personality
  • Identity and attitudes in older people
  • Gender and emotion
  • Attitudes and identities around food
  • Computer-mediated relationships
  • Stigma and minority identities
  • Digital and virtual realities
