Onsite services
HoPC office, Tabernacle Street, London
Few archive materials are now held at our London office (see Holdings at Tabernacle Street). Our main archives are housed at the Wellcome Library, where researchers may view material from our collection of individual psychologists' archives or from the Society's own archives.
If you want to have access to any of the material at HoPC in London, this can only be done by prior arrangement with our Archivist Mike Maskill.
Small photocopying or scanning jobs (subject to copyright restrictions and at our discretion) will generally be done for visiting researchers free of charge. There is no self-service. We reserve the right to make a reasonable charge for jobs we deem to be onerous or particularly time-consuming (e.g. per A4 page: 10p BPS members, 25p non-members).
In some circumstances we will be able to retrieve documents held at offsite locations for viewing at Society premises, either in London or Leicester. This can only be provided by special arrangement in each case and will be subject to a charge to cover costs.
Wellcome Library
For research on archive material held at the Wellcome Library, please refer to the Library’s ‘Using the library’ page.
Offsite services
We are happy to offer an information service to answer queries submitted by e-mail, letter or phone.
While we reserve the right to ask for a contribution to cover our costs, we will generally supply photocopies or pdfs of papers and other material (subject to copyright restrictions and at our discretion) free of charge to BPS members, provided that the job is reasonably small. Non-members will be charged a £5 handling fee plus costs.
The Society's main library holdings are at Senate House Library, University of London. Though Society members have to register with Senate House to obtain a reference user's card, and registration must be done in person, Senate House may be able to help non-registered members with queries or requests for photocopies. Senate House Library has an online catalogue available to all on their website.
In the future we plan to set up online access to visual material. A user-registration scheme may be introduced at this point to enable registered users to download full-size images. In the meantime we will negotiate individually with individuals or organisations wishing to publish images provided by us.
