US Office of Naval Research Reports
Over 60 box-files of US Office of Naval Research Reports from the late 1940s to early 1970s, previously in the National Institute of Industrial Psychology collection held at the Wellcome Institute Library, were donated to the History of Psychology Centre in April 2004, representing research done at numerous US universities and military research establishments.
On 26 July 2007 this collection was transferred to the Harold Cohen Library, University of Liverpool. The School of Psychology at Liverpool has ongoing research and teaching programmes that will benefit significantly from ready access to the collection. Academic researchers and students from other institutions will have borrowing rights through collaborative schemes; similar rights are available to local NHS staff and staff of the National Museums Liverpool and local NHS staff. The general public may use the library for reference purposes.
Applied Psychology Unit (Cambridge) Pamphlet Collection
In 1998 the famous Medical Research Council funded Applied Psychology Unit in Cambridge was formally disbanded and reconstituted as the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit (CBU). This entailed disposing of a large pamphlet collection built up since the 1940s covering topics from road user behaviour to aircraft instrumentation and deafness. The History of Psychology Centre acquired the majority of this (c.150 box-files) in January 2003, although a few topics remained with academics elsewhere. Dating from the 1940s to early 1980s this includes many research reports (often of military provenance), xeroxed talks, etc. from all over the world, much of it either never published in conventional journals or unavailable elsewhere in the UK.
In August 2007 this collection was transferred to the British Library in London. A card catalogue to the collection, until then kept at Cambridge, was also transferred to the British Library so that more can be made of this unique resource. Anyone may visit the Library and request access to the material.
