Supervision skills training: Workshop 4 – Ongoing Development – Supervision of Supervision

This is the fourth of a series of four workshops to facilitate supervisors, or would-be supervisors, to develop, reflect on and refine their own personal practice, tailored to their approach, the context in which they work, and their client group/s.

Completion of this series of four workshops confers eligibility to apply for entry onto the Society's Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors (RAPPS) via the approved training route. The register is designed to recognise psychologists with special expertise in supervision.

The workshops are spread out to allow delegates time for reflection and practice, and preferably should be attended sequentially where possible. Feedback from previous delegates has stressed how valuable this course has been for their development as supervisors, and as supervisees.

Provisional timetable
09:30 Registration/Tea and Coffee
10:00 Workshop starts (there will be a break for lunch)
16:00 Workshop ends

This workshop evolved to provide ongoing support for those working as supervisors by providing an open, peer group development forum. Delegates bring their own agendas for further exploration in supervision in groups. They have the opportunity to practice the model of peer group supervision taught in Day 3. Delegates engage in a whole day of peer group supervision, having the opportunity to bring their own issues relating to their supervision practice, and to work with others on theirs. In the interests of Continuing Professional Development and enhancing our practice as supervisors, it is essential that we have someone else look at our work as supervisors. The opportunities for this are often limited and supervisors are encouraged to attend this day of the course as often as they require to satisfy the need for supervision of their own practice as supervisors. Being supervised by others who have completed the same training allows further consolidation of previous learning and application.

A requirement for attendance is participation in the previous workshops and it is advisable to attend after a period of practical application.

Learning outcomes and objectives

  • To revisit, consolidate and enhance previous learning and application
  • To reflect on ‘real-world’ practice and experience
  • To provide further reflection and exploration of the theory and practice of Supervision
  • To practice, observe and receive Supervision of Supervision.
