Masterclass in Career Coaching: Challenging Clients
Building on the feedback from the successful career transitions masterclass in 2011 this workshop
moves the focus from an overview of current career theories to addressing strategies to deal with the challenges and career coaching dilemmas of working with challenging clients.
Examples addressed include:
- Multiple roles/expectations: Counselling, coaching, advice & skills training
- Work / Life Integration
- Conflicting goals, lack of focus / meaning & direction
- Low energy & commitment
- Defense behaviours
- Low creativity
- Personal awareness & development during a crisis
- Avoiding decisions
- Low confidence & resilience
The course takes into account the limited time you may have with your client (managers/professionals) and provides a practical range of techniques, strategies and innovative ways of working with your clients.Emphasis is placed upon how to open the mindset of your client to the potential within them and ways to engage with their challenges. Thereby addressing the typical challenges faced when seeking to help individuals who are ‘lost’ in their search for meaningful work.

This workshop will be most helpful for those who are engaged in career coaching whether practitioners in training, chartered occupational psychologists, executive coaches, HR professionals, talent managers or line managers. Individual’s fresh to the field will pick up a robust approach and insight. The pace and focus of discussion will be aimed at addressing practitioner challenges.

Facilitator: Peter Fennah
Peter is passionate about helping people to strategically navigate uncertainties and to build
confidence in themselves and others. Prior to setting up Career Synergy Ltd he was Director of the
Careers at Cranfield School of Management where he turned the Careers dept around reaching 7th in the World for placement success (Economist, 2007-8) and assisted in the progression to 3rd in the World MBA ranking (Wall Street, 2009). Peter taught on the MBA Organisational Behaviour modules, created and led the flagship senior leadership assessment centre for all 250+ Exec & FTMBAs. He has over 12 years’ executive and senior management performance coaching experience across Private and Public Sectors including CEO & one star military personnel. His early career in FTSE 100 petrochemical & financial institutions involved facilitating programmes of change, divisional level exec coaching as well as doing a stint in the DWP generating a competency framework for 136,000 employees.
