Introduction to basic CBT approach and skills with an emphasis on the use of video, live practice and the development of self observation and reflection skills within an educational context.

The course is intended for primarily educational psychologists but also others who are planning to work individually in schools with young people with some emotional difficulties. Attendees will have had some training in CBT and a theoretical overview. The course is skills based and will provide an opportunity refresh and extend understanding and skills in delivering CBT.
Learning outcomes and objectives
- A basic model of CBT for children will be introduced
- Similarities with other therapeutic models familiar to those working in education will be outlined
- Basic skills for working with the client will be presented and practiced
- Students will learn about formulation and have an opportunity to develop one of their own
Ways of adapting CBT for use in schools will be outlined.
Facilitator: Jeremy Morris CPsychol
Jeremy has taught and supervised CBT to Trainee EPs at UCL over the last three years. He has supervised students on the CBT for children course at the Anna Freud Centre and is an accredited CBT therapist with the BABCP. Jeremy currently provides some supervision for EPs in Kent for their developing Cognitive Behavioural Interventions. He is also an Educational Psychologist for 2 days a week at an EBD school and is helping them develop CBT interventions for some of their children. Jeremy is Currently undertaking a doctorate looking at anxiety, CBT and Mindfulness.
