Professor Maggie Snowling, University of York, Centre for Reading and Language
Maggie Snowling holds a personal Chair in the Department of Psychology at the University of York. She is one of the Joint Editors of the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry. In 2008/9 she served as a member of Sir Jim Rose’s Expert Advisory Group on provision for Dyslexia (2009) and as an expert member of the Education for All: Fast Track Initiative group in Washington DC in 2011.
Professor Annett Karmiloff-Smith, University of London, Birkbeck Centre for Brain & Cognitive Development
Annette Karmiloff-Smith was until 2003 Head of the Neurocognitive Development Unit at the Institute of Child Health, London. Before coming to the UK she studied and worked with Piaget. She is the author of 8 books and over 200 articles and chapters. She has frequently acted as a scientific consultant for both media and industry.
Professor Neil Humphrey, University of Manchester, School of Education
Neil Humphrey is Professor of Psychology of Education at the University of Manchester. He is an expert in social and emotional learning. Neil has published extensively on Social and Emotional Learning, with his work appearing in journals such as Educational Psychology, School Psychology International, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties, and the International Journal of Emotional Education.
Dr Sonia Sharp, Executive Director of Children and Young People’s Services in Sheffield
Sonia Sharp is Executive Director of Children and Young People’s Services in Sheffield. Prior to this she held senior positions in Rotherham, Leeds and Birmingham. Her background is in Educational Psychology and she is in the National Lead on Educational Psychology for the Association of Directors of Children’s Services.
André Imich, SEN and Disability Professional Adviser, DfE
André is a qualified teacher and educational psychologist who has held a number of practitioner and leadership roles in local authorities, and was Principal Educational Psychologist in Essex between 1996 and 2004. He then became a member of the National SEN Adviser team, providing support and challenge to local authorities in implementing the government’s strategy for special educational needs. He recently worked as an adviser to the Lamb Inquiry into parental confidence. In April 2010, André joined the DfE in the role of SEN and Disability Professional Adviser, and has worked on a range of policy developments, currently being engaged on Green Paper implementation.
