Welcome to the Psychology of Education Section of the BPS,
one of the first sections to be established in the Society and also currently one of the largest.
The section promotes psychology in education and the interests of psychologists engaged in schools, further and higher education, child guidance and the wider community. Its aims are:
- To promote the study and discussion of psychology in education.
- To stimulate research into matters related to the psychological aspects of education.
- To provide a forum for the discussion and exchange of ideas among those interested in the psychological aspects of education.
- To offer advice to the Society on matters related to psychological aspects of education and the training of teachers.
It achieves these aims in three ways:
- Communication of research findings;
- Lively discussion of contemporary issues both scientific and professional.
- Development of policy on key issues affecting psychology and psychologists in education.
Through its committee, the section organises an annual conference and produces the Psychology of Education Review, a bi-annual peer reviewed journal and newsletter. It also organises and publishes an annual Vernon-Wall lecture, which is normally presented at the annual conference. Other section activities include one-day conferences on specific issues, a number of ad hoc policy groups, and responses to a variety of government and other documents.
Members of the section are invited to join an email list, which is used to circulate information about conferences and other events and to invite members to contribute to ad hoc policy groups and other activities.
