DOP Learning a Living 2004-2005 Report

The deadline to tender for the Division of Occupational Psychology (DOP) 2007 Learning a Living programme has now passed. Decisions will go out to those who have submitted by the 1st August 2006. Thank you to all those who have contributed.

Dear Colleagues

As occupational psychologists we recognise and value the importance of continuing professional development (CPD) and lifelong learning. We also recognise that the majority of us are working in an increasingly fast-moving and competitive environment, making it a commercial requirement to regularly update our skills.

All our masterclass and workshop topics for 2006 have been carefully selected following the findings from our ‘Development Needs Analysis’ survey, which is sent annually to all members of the Division and also incorporates feedback from delegates attending the previous year’s programme. Each facilitator has been chosen for their breadth of experience, professional expertise and quality of content and documentation.

You will find that our programme for 2006 is second to none, offering you specialist training and development at competitive prices. Each attendee will receive a certificate of attendance, which will be accepted as evidence for your CPD portfolio or to contribute to your Logbook if you are a Practitioner-in-Training. Our programme offers value for money, as we have frozen prices at 2004 levels and we have reduced the concessionary price. Further, this year’s programme provides better value through enhanced workshop and masterclass documentation. All our events are attended by a DOP representative and we produce a report of the day, which is published on our Learning a Living website. We also provide the opportunity for individual delegates to give their own overview of events they attend.

This year we have asked our facilitators to indicate their optimum number of delegates to help facilitate the learning environment for their particular workshop topic. Therefore, workshops run at the Society’s London building will vary in size from 8 to a maximum of 20. So I would encourage you to book early as some of the workshops that were run in 2005 were in demand and oversubscribed. Masterclasses will be held in central London, and again delegate places will be limited.

With the introduction of the Society’s mandatory CPD requirements, the DOP and its Training and Development Subcommittee continue to work towards providing a diverse programme of workshop events based upon the development needs of our members and colleagues. Our brochure for 2006 includes detailed information about each event so that you will be better able to decide which ones are suitable for your own personal needs. The DOP is always looking for increased member input and feedback, so if you have any topics that you would like to see in future programmes please let us know.
