Welcome to the 2008 Programme
Dear Colleagues

Welcome to the 2008 DOP Learning a Living programme - welcome to your development!

Before you is an impressive collection of learning opportunities - developed by Occupational Psychologists for Occupational Psychologists. It includes a range of skill areas - something for everyone. Learning a Living is the result of a rigorous selection process managed by your peers.

This is the fifth year of the Learning a Living programme. Our aim has been to provide worthwhile formal options for your continuing professional development (CPD), in addition to the other formal and informal (e.g. on-the-job) experiences you may have. By providing you with our own ‘home-grown’ offering, you can be assured that we are supporting our OP-First objectives: obviously, developing your competency and enhancing your employability with content and techniques that are based in scientific rigour. At the same time, having such a strong CPD programme also makes us more visible to the public and increases our influence - did you know that non-DOP members and also non-BPS members can attend Learning a Living workshops as well?

Learning a Living is meant to be a dynamic programme - one that should adapt itself year-to-year as our development needs as a group change. To be able to do this, we need your input. Let us know in what content areas you need development, at what level, and how you would like to receive it. Let us know whether we’re meeting your needs.

One final note: We don’t expect this programme to meet all of your development needs - but there is another way that you can learn while being involved with the DOP: join a subcommittee.DOP activities such as Learning a Living succeed because of the hard-working DOP members who volunteer their time to produce them.

Learning a Living is created by the Training & Development Sub-committee. Working on a sub-committee can teach you organisational and leadership skills, while helping you network. We need people; come give us a hand. Get in touch with me personally to see what you can do.

Best wishes for your development,

Dr Gene Johnson
Chair, Division of Occupational Psychology
