The Core of Leadership

A free one day conference examining the nature of leadership in business and commerce was held on 6th December 2005.

It was organised by the The British Psychological Society’s Division of Occupational Psychology to share some of the latest research insights with senior business people and HR professionals.

Occupational Psychologists have for years been studying what makes an effective leader in the workplace and how good leadership contributes to successful business, searching for answers to questions like these:

"Is there a core to leadership that is necessary for all leadership situations in business, if so what is it? If not, why not?"

"If there is a ‘core’ how can it be best developed and enhanced?"

The conference included presentations and syndicate sessions that examined the benefits of good leadership within organisations and how to foster it in individuals within a workforce.

Foreward by Mark Embleton, 2005 Chair of the Division of Occupational Psychology
