About the Consortium:

Despite its growing use, a consensus on the best practices of coaching is only just emerging. The Leading Edge Consortium will examine the newest ideas and research on the psychology, impact and best practices in executive coaching. Some of the scheduled sessions include:

  • "Learning to Coach Leaders", presented by Bob Lee - How does someone prepare to be a coach to clients who have leadership challenges? Based on lessons learned during his own career and from preparing others to become coaches, Lee describes his model of coaching and outlines how he and his colleagues help others develop their own models and skills. Lee, a management consultant in private practice in New York City, is the Director of iCoachNewYork, which provides coach training programs and supervision for both internal and external coaches. He is co-author of the books Discovering the Leader in You and Executive Coaching: A Guide for the HR Professional.

  • Douglas McKenna and Sandra Davis will speak on the psychology of coaching - Every executive coach brings working theories about people, organizations, and change to the coaching engagement. These theoretical orientations, based on training and personal experience, influence how key coaching issues are addressed. This session will challenge participants to consider how theoretical assumptions shape the coaching process and affect its impact. McKenna, a former General Manager in corporate HR for the Microsoft Corporation, is trained as a differential psychologist. He is President of The Oceanside Institute, located on Whidbey Island in Washington State. Davis, a counseling psychologist by training, is the Chief Executive Officer of Minneapolis-based MDA Leadership Consulting, which she founded in 1981.

The confirmed list of speakers includes:

  • Merrill C. Anderson - CEO of Cylient, a professional services firm offering coaching-based leadership development, culture change and MetrixGlobalĂ‚© evaluation services.
  • Michael H. Frisch - An executive coaching professional and supervising coach and coaching instructor for both internal and external coaches through his affiliation with iCoachNewYork, which provides coach training programs and supervision for both internal and external coaches.
