Time: 9.15am to 4.45pm
Location: Middlesex University, Hendon campus

This conference will bring together the latest research, practice and policy relating to working with Hate Crimes offenders and with those convicted of "radical" or "TACT" offences. Topics will explore the nature of these two types of offending, considering connections between them and the challenges presented to offender management and intervention. By considering ways to intervene with Hate Crimes Offenders and with TACT offenders, we will bring together two inter-related strands of work, recognising the need for agencies and organisations to develop effective partnerships, and identify challenges, trends, and future directions in tackling hate crime and extremism.

Location: Society Offices in London
The training covers the background to the use of practitioners as expert witnesses and the skills required to become an ‘expert expert’. Focus is on the delivery of written and oral evidence in legal settings including formal legal settings and quasi legal settings such as oral hearings and Mental Health Review Tribunals. The course addresses different types of witnesses [i.e. expert, professional/ordinary, witness of fact] and trains delegates in the legal requirements for reports and how to make them defendable. Delegates are taught the correct procedure for giving defendable evidence and how they can prepare for this. There is a particular focus on the questioning techniques utilised by barristers and solicitors and effective methods of responding.
The core aim of the training is to ensure that delegates feel confident when providing evidence either as a professional and/or expert witness and that they can work towards becoming an excellent witness in terms of providing highly defendable evidence. This course is for individuals expecting to provide written and/or oral evidence in a legal setting and who wish to develop their skills in this area.
