Full membership is available to educational psychologists who have
completed a professional training course accredited by the Training
Committee of the Division and who have completed a minimum of one
year's supervised practice as an educational psychologist.
Supervision
By supervision is meant the regular timetabled discussion of case
and other work with a colleague usually more experienced, with a view
to reflecting on the casework, enhancing professional development and
growth, increasing competence and confidence and supporting the work of
all colleagues. This should take place at least fortnightly.
Affiliate membership is open to full-time students on recognized
educational psychology courses and to those in their first year of
supervised practice as educational psychologists and assistant
educational psychologists employed in LEA settings. They have all
rights, apart from being eligible to vote or nominate committee
members.
Affiliate members are normally eligible for conditional registration as a chartered educational psychologist.
Only chartered psychologists who are admitted to the Division of
Educational and Child Psychology, or establish their eligibility for
full membership, via Rule 5(a)(i) of the Division's rules namely:
5 (a) Membership of the Division shall be open to Members of the
Society who are qualified to register as Chartered Psychologists and
who fulfil either of the following conditions:
(i) The successful completion of a course of professional training
in educational psychology recognized or awarded by the Society plus one
year's supervised practice as an educational psychologist with a
supervisor who is eligible for status as a chartered educational
psychologist him/herself; together with at least two years' qualified
classroom teaching experience; or the possession of such other
qualifications as shall be deemed by the Division to be equivalent to
the above.

Chartered psychologists who are clinical psychologists and who are
admitted to full membership of the DECP under Rule 5(a)(ii) namely:
the successful completion of a course of professional training in
clinical psychology recognised by the Society, provided that the
candidate's work has been principally concerned with children and young
people over a period of not less than three years
But are not entitled to use the term "Chartered Educational
Psychologist" although can establish with the Division of Clinical
Psychology their eligibility to use the term "Chartered Clinical
Psychologist".
The annual subscription is £45 for full members and £25
for affiliate members. Applicants for the Division have to be members
of The British Psychological Society. Subscriptions are tax deductible.
Members of the DECP receive the Newsletter and copies of the journal
Educational and Child Psychology.
