About the Division

   

The aims of the Division of Educational and Child Psychology are to;

  1. Encourage generally, the highest possible standards for the application of psychology to promote learning, development and the general well-being of children and young people;
  2. Extend the contributions which psychological knowledge can make to the above aim;
  3. Promote the efficiency and usefulness of its members by setting up and maintaining a high standard of professional training and conduct;


To achieve these, the members of the Committee and general DECP membership:

  1. Actively represent the DECP on the Council, the Professional Affairs Board and the Admissions Committee of the Society as well as any other Boards, Standing Committees, Working Groups and Subsystems as may be appropriate;
  2. Offer advice to members and the public on a wide variety of issues relating to educational and child psychology;
  3. Are consulted by the DfES (Department for Education and Skills) and other government departments;
  4. Represent the DECP at meetings with other professional bodies;
  5. Monitor and encourage the development of training and continued professional development of educational psychologists through actively supporting the DECP Training Committee and the Standing Committee on the Continued Professional Development for practising educational psychologists;
  6. Publish a newsletter four times a year;
  7. Publish a journal, Educational and Child Psychology, four times a year;
  8. Organise an annual course;
  9. Promote and fund other events, working groups and research which furthers the aims of the Division
  10. Administer membership of the Division and chartered status as an educational psychologist
