Psychosis & Complex Mental Health (formally Psychosocial Rehabilitation)

Chair’s statement welcoming people to the Faculty

Welcome to the Psychosis and Complex Mental Health Faculty. In our first year the Faculty’s first priority was to set-up an active process of development putting members’ interests at the centre of our activities by ensuring that all the various groupings that make up the Faculty; regional groups, special interest groups and networks, were fully represented. In our first year this has meant agreeing membership led Faculty structures and ensuring that they were all well supported by the DCP. Our next step is to ensure the widest possible professional interests are represented throughout the activities of the Faculty by encouraging further network and special interest group development based on what members have indicated is important to them on their application forms. Please have a look through the various groups that make up the Faculty and join in those that interest you. If you have suggestions for further groupings then use an existing representative to bring this to the attention of the Faculty committee or let the chair know personally. Current developments are around CMHT work and Specialist Rehabilitation.

Our second priority has been to use our resources carefully to ensure that the Faculty has a co-ordinated presence and a real voice in key decision making arenas across mental health and social care policy development. We have recruited members to the committee to take a lead on various cross-cutting themes such as service user involvement and social inclusion. Currently we need to recruit a membership secretary to take forward our use of the new membership database created by the DCP administration team so that members can be kept in touch with who is doing what, where and how! If you would be interested please get in touch.

By making these new developments real the Faculty will gradually provide a range of new services to members including an annual Faculty conference (please see the current event listing for details of this years’ conference on "Emotion and Psychosis" - in partnership with ISPS); direct electronic notification of all Faculty sponsored events; web-based forums, further briefing papers across all Faculty interest areas and greater networking opportunities via the membership database. We have also begun developing our representation in NIMHE, CSIP and DH activities such as New Ways of Woking for Psychologists.

Welcome to the Faculty and please get in touch.
