Who are we and what do we do?
We are members of the Division of Clinical Psychology (DCP), who are working towards a career in Clinical Psychology. We aim to include people from diverse geographical locations and routes into the profession on the Committee.
Our members include those who are in pre-training roles (e.g. Support Worker, Graduate Primary Care Mental Health Worker, Assistant Psychologist etc) or in postgraduate study (e.g. IAPT courses, MSc, PhDs etc) and those who are currently trainee clinical psychologists. Our purpose is to ensure that members have a voice within the profession. We gather and distribute information and knowledge on current developments that impact our members.
We are actively involved in various national committees which require input from ‘pre-qualified’ members:
1. DCP Executive Committee
2. Group of Trainers in Clinical Psychology (GTiCP)
A network for colleagues involved in delivering training programmes in clinical psychology across the UK. It provides a forum for discussion and debate on matters of strategic importance to clinical psychology, as well as more practical and operational support to those involved in different aspects of training delivery.
3. Committee of Trainers in Clinical Psychology (CTCP)
Aims to promote standards of excellence in clinical psychology training in the
UK
. The Committee is made up of clinical psychologists who work in the NHS or other practice settings, and/or who work on clinical psychology training courses, in addition to trainee representation. Together, they are responsible for outlining the standards (accreditation criteria) that the Society expects clinical psychology training courses to meet.
4. The Management Committee of the Clearing House for Postgraduate Courses in Clinical Psychology
The clearing house processes application to and provides information about 30 clinical psychology training courses in
Great Britain
. The clearing house is a non-profit registered educational charity managed by a committee of representatives from the DCP Pre-Qualification group and the Group of Trainers in Clinical Psychology (GTiCP).
5. The Psychology Postgraduate Affairs Group (PsyPAG)
PsyPAG supports and represents all psychology postgraduates in the British Psychological Society (BPS). PsyPAG also runs an Annual Conference and Workshop as well as producing a quarterly journal. They interact with the Student Members Group of the Society. This allows PsyPAG to raise awareness of certain postgraduate issues that may affect undergraduates.
6. Policy Unit (PU)
The purpose of this Unit is to develop the DCP policy as a proactive strategy and in response to Government (and other) initiatives. In particular, it ensures effective communication and co-ordination with the BPS Policy Support Unit and Parliamentary Office. It is a major source of input and expertise to these Society functions in order to ensure that the DCP is strongly represented in the context of corporate strategy and policy.
7. Professional Standards Unit (PSU)
Developing and taking forward a wide range of issues surrounding the determination and maintenance of professional standards for clinical psychology including pre-registration training, continuing professional development, service development, organisation and delivery, staff appointments and external assessment.
8. Professional Governance Panel (PGP)
Provide publications and advice on standards for professional practice, service delivery and development. They also ensure that any guidance provided is connected and consistent across DCP sub-systems.
9. Membership Services Unit (MSU)
They aim to improve and extend the services that are offered to DCP members including the provision of regular CDP events.
10. Unite
(Formerly known as Amicus)

UK
's largest manufacturing, technical and skilled persons' union with over 1.2m members in the private and public sectors. Unite is the union that represents Clinical Psychologists and has been instrumental in negotiating job descriptions, person specifications and pay bands in Agenda for Change for Clinical Psychologists.
