Research Matters

These pages will contain information regarding research, along with advertisements for participant recruitment. Please see below for information on how you might advertise for participants via the DCoP website.

Do You Need to Find Research Participants?

Many people find it hard, and expensive, to find and contact possible research participants who are counselling psychologists. It is important for the profession that we can do this with greater ease so that we can build up a body of knowledge which is specific to Counselling Psychology .

We are therefore sending out requests for participants on the DCoP Announcements List, and these will also put onto the research pages of the DCoP web site (Please see the section "Research Matters" on the website).

In order to ensure quality control, it is suggested that all requests include the name and contact details of the supervisor, in the case of trainee counselling psychologists. If the supervisor is then satisfied with the advertisement, it should be sent by the supervisor direct to DCoPComms@bps.org.uk. Chartered psychologists can send ads direct themselves. Please note that all requests should contain a date that the advertisement should be withdrawn

This will then be scrutinised by Peter Martin (Communications Lead) for any possible further ethical repercussions. In case of any doubt, I will get back to the supervisor, the Research Lead, and if necessary any other relevant colleague. If all is in order (as is expected in the vast majority of cases) I will then publish the request.

Please note that it is essential that all research offers are followed up with due courtesy and promptness - in that way only will we be able to maintain the goodwill of intended participants

With best wishes,

Dr Peter Martin (DCoP Communications Lead)
