Central England Counselling Psychology Forum

Representing Counselling Psychologists in the Midlands

CECP FORUM

The CECP Forum is an independent, non-profit making body, who’s aims are to represent the development of Counselling Psychology, and support Counselling Psychologists, qualified and in training, in the Midlands

HISTORY

Since 1999, Counselling Psychologists in the West Midlands have met under the banner of the Midlands Network. This provided a forum for Counselling Psychologists to support each other, exchange news and views, and develop knowledge and skills through meetings and CPD events.

As the number of Counselling Psychologists in the Region grew, and new challenges to psychologists, such as Statutory Registration and New Ways of Working, emerged, the need for a strong local group increased.

In light of the changing face of Counselling Psychology in the Midlands the Inaugural General Meeting of the Central England Counselling Psychology Forum was held in September 2006. At this meeting a constitution was agreed, and a committee elected. This placed the Forum on a more democratic basis, and created structures that would ensure it’s future, and promote it’s development.

AIMS

  • to offer support and encouragement to members and prospective members, especially trainees and those involved in their training.
  • to provide a forum for the discussion and exchange of ideas amongst those interested in the scientific and professional issues that inform the practice of Counselling Psychology.
  • to promote high standards of training, professional competence and behaviour amongst Counselling Psychologists.
  • to inform public awareness of the nature, aims and practical applications of Counselling Psychology.

to authoritatively represent and further the discipline of Counselling Psychology, both as a body of psychological knowledge and as a profession in the Midlands.

WHY JOIN THE FORUM?

In order to carry out it’s aims effectively, to the benefit of all counselling psychologists in the Midlands, the Forum needs as many members as possible, because, through numbers comes strength. There are other reasons to join too:

  • Preferential booking on the Forum’s CPD events.
  • Fee reductions for members at Forum CPD events.
  • The Forum provides a local community for Counselling Psychologists, most of whom experience some degree of professional isolation.
