Workshop aims
The purpose of this one-day event is to provide Chartered Forensic Psychologists with an overview of key issues in teaching and training, such as that found as part of supervision, and to assist in developing forensic trainees’ own skills.
Workshop content
This workshop will explore:
- How adults learn, and the importance of considering individual differences such as learning preferences;
- Theoretical and practical issues affecting information delivery, such as information load, narrative structure, and modality;
- The importance of giving and receiving feedback;
- Achieving clear and effective delivery of training materials
Sessions will be theory-led. Attendees will also be given the opportunity to put learning into practice as part of small-group sessions throughout the day.
The workshop will start at 9.30am, and will finish by 4.30pm.
About the Trainer
Dr Chris Atherton is a Senior Lecturer in psychology at the University of Central Lancashire and a Higher Education Authority registered practitioner, with several years' experience in teaching and researching cognition. There are two complementary strands to her research: the use of visual aids in teaching and information delivery; and how the brain attends to and represents real-world objects as a result of vision and experience. Dr Atherton combines these to develop teaching styles and information delivery methods based on cognitive theory and empirical evidence.
