Dear Member,
Whether you’ve been a member from the section’s inception or have just joined, we’d like to hear from you. We’d like to use this letter to report some of our recent discussions, what we’ve been doing, and what we’ve got in mind for the future. To this end we’ve enclosed a (short) open-ended questionnaire and would appreciate your responses (see end of message).
We won’t be having a conference this year in September, but we will resume again in September 2009. The idea is to take ‘Consciousness and Belief’ as the main theme. More information will follow in the Newsletter, and please take a regular look on our website for updates:

This year we will have our AGM on November 21st and a one-day conference on November 22nd; both of these will take place in London at the BPS offices - see the BPS website for details about the venue and how to get there:

As a member, you’re invited to attend the AGM or to send items that you would like to have discussed, suggestions for events, and so forth.
The one-day conference will run at a cost of £12 per person (reductions for students) and include lunch, tea and coffee.
The one-day conference will be based in part on the symposium at this year’s BPS annual conference in Dublin (April, 2008). The symposium was titled, ‘Conscious intention, agency and free will: neuroscientific and experiential perspectives’.
For the past few years, a number of Committee members have had discussions with the members of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, Philosophy Group, about a possible joint conference. We are pleased to announce a joint one day conference on Consciousness and Mental Health: A Phenomenological Approach. This is likely to be held in mid July 2009 at the Royal College, London, with speakers from both parties. Further details will follow. Contact either Guy Saunders (guy.saunders@uwe.ac.uk) or Debbie Biggerstaff (D.L.Biggerstaff@warwick.ac.uk) for more information.
The CEP section is run by members for its members and none of the committee is paid, so we would welcome extra pairs of hands to help us. You can say how much or how little you’d like to be involved we’d just like to spread the load and get fresh ideas from you.
We look forward to hearing from you,
Sincerely
Dr Guy Saunders (Chair)

Dr Susan Stuart (Honorary Secretary)
