This document shows how mental health inequalities are mainly due to social and material factors and gives service leads and commissioners guidance on how to reduce the impact of these factors.

Mental health inequalities and their causes can only be addressed, however, through action on wider social inequalities.

It builds on the community mental health framework for adults and older adults to set out how the NHS long term plan’s vision for modernised, whole person, whole population approaches can be realised.
