What is Occupational Psychology?
Occupational Psychology is concerned with the performance of people at work and in training, how organisations function and how individuals and small groups behave at work.
What qualifications in Occupational Psychology does the Society offer?
For candidates who began training before 1st January 2007, the society offers a route to becoming a Chartered Occupational Psychologist by completing at least three year's full time supervised work experience along with the Society's Post Graduate Certificate in Occupational Psychology (PCOP). Alternatively, if you already hold a Society accredited MSc in Occupational Psychology you can complete a minimum of two year's full time supervised work experience.
Who is the Society qualification for?

Criteria for Registration as a Chartered Occupational Psychologist
Psychologists who began training before 1st January 2007:
Those who began their training in occupational psychology before 1st January 2007 must;
a) hold the Graduate Basis for Registration,
b) complete either the Society’s Postgraduate Certificate in Occupational Psychology or a Society accredited MSc in occupational psychology
c) complete a period of practice as an occupational psychologist, under the supervision of a Chartered Occupational Psychologist, which is judged by the Society to meet the criteria laid out in the Guidelines on becoming a Chartered Occupational Psychologist.
The total period of training, including (b) and (c) above, must be not less that three years.
In order to qualify by the route outlined above in (c), a Member must have demonstrated to the Board of Assessors in Occupational Psychology that they are actively pursuing qualification under this training route either by submitting a logbook for assessment before 1st January 2007 or by submitting a statement from their Chartered Occupational Psychologist supervisor which confirms that they are actively working under the Guidelines.
The deadline for providing this statement was the 1st of January 2008, this deadline has now closed and no further applications for the old route are being considered.
Those who are currently registered under this route must have completed their training and submitted their application to register as a Chartered Psychologist, by 31st March 2012. Anyone who has not done so will be required to follow the new Qualification in Occupational Psychology (QOccPsych).

Regulations for the Society's Postgraduate Qualifications
Please find below forms to enrol on the Qualification in Occupational Psychology (QOccPsych). Candidates should submit the enrolment form, approval of supervisor form, provisional plan of training and a cheque for the enrolment fee addressed to the British Psychological Society. If a BPS accredited MSc in Occupational Psychology is held, then please enclose a copy of your certificate with your application to gain exemption from all of Stage 1 in the Qualification. An accredited MSc also grants exemption from the stage 1 and 2 research dimensions of the qualification.

Stage 1 Exams
For candidates who do not have an accredited MSc there are the Stage 1 Exams. Candidates must be registered for the exams before October in the preceding year. Information regarding the exam schedule and fees can be found in the document below.

Fees
Fees for the new qualification which will start in April 2007. VAT will be added to all fees from 1 January 2008. These fees will not apply to candidates on the current chartership route. Although, logbook submission fees apply to both routes.

Registration on the New Qualification
Psychologists who began training in occupational psychology on or after 1st January 2007
Those who began their training in occupational psychology after 1 January 2007 must;
- hold the Graduate Basis for Registration
- complete the Society’s Qualification in Occupational Psychology.
Practitioners in Training who complete a Society accredited training course in Occupational Psychology will receive exemption from Stage 1 of the Qualification and must complete Stage 2 in order to be eligible for registration as a Chartered Occupational Psychologist.
Logbook Submission and Fees
Both new and old assessment routes have the same 4 logbook submission deadlines:
1 Feb
1 May
1 August
1 November
Written/Email notification must be given at least 1 month before the deadline.
Logbooks will not be accepted without this notification or assessed without the assessment fee. Email notifications should be sent to:
angela.baxter@bps.org.uk and written notifcations to Angela Baxter at the societies Leicester office.
All notifications should include the following:
1. Candidate's name and BPS membership number.
2. Supervisor's name and BPS membership number.
3. Assessor's name (if applicable).
4. Submission deadline required.
5. Please state what you will be submitting. (First submission/ re-submission/ first and final submission/ final submission).
QOccPsych candidates must submit 2 copies of their logbook (1 with original signatures and 1 photocopy).
The logbooks asssessment process is expected to take 3 months. It may not be possible for a candidate to make a final submission within the same year on a proceeding deadline, ie May then August. This is because we cannot gaurantee that a logbook will be returned in sufficient time to submit on a proceeding deadline
All candidates are required to send logbooks to Angela Baxter at the Society's Leicester Office: St Andrews House, 48 Princess Road East, Leicester, LE1 7DR. Logbooks should be sent by registered/ recorded delivery which provides proof of postage. Receipts for logbook are not issued due to the volume we receive.

Due to the volume of logbooks we receive all receipts for assessment fees are sent out within 2-4 weeks of the logbook submission deadline.

Guidelines on becoming a Chartered Occupational Psychologist
From January 2007 fees for logbook submission were introduced. For further information on fees please see the document below.
Logbook Submission and Fees
All candidates on the old chartership route will be charged fees for logbook submission from January 2007. From 1 January 2008, these logbook submission fees will have added VAT.
Postgraduate Certificate in Occupational Psychology (PCOP)
The 2007 PCOP exams in February and July will be the last exams in the current format. The 2008 examination will include a research dimension.
Supervision
All supervisors must be chartered occupational psychologists for over 1 year before they can supervise. To help candidates engage a suitable supervisor please use the database link below or alternatievly the register of chartered psychologists.

Any payment of supervision fees is deemed a private business transaction between the supervisor & trainee and as such is not regulated by the society.
To change your supervisor please complete the request for approval of supervisor form above. This should contain the details of your previous supervisior and the new replacement supervisor. Only if there is a problem with your chosen supervisor will the office contact you.

Supervisor Training Days 2008
There are three new route supervisor training days this year, Monday 19 May in London, Thursday 11 September in Leicester and Saturday 22 November in Glasgow.
