Occupational Psychology
What is Occupational Psychology?
Occupational Psychology is concerned with the performance of people at work and in training, how organisations function and how individuals and small groups behave at work.
What qualifications in Occupational Psychology do the Society offer?
The Qualification in Occupational Psychology (QOccPsych) is the only route open to candidates to become Chartered Occupational Psychologists. The QOccPsych covers all aspects of postgraduate training and assessment required for registration as a Chartered Occupational Psychologist and Full Membership of the Division of Occupational Psychology (DOP) and gives eligibility to apply to the HPC for Registration as an Occupational Psychologist.
Qualification in Occupational Psychology
Who is the Society qualification for?
Those applying to enrol on the QOccPsych must be able to provide the following:
1. Evidence that they hold the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC).
3. Hold a Society accredited MSc in Occupational Psychology or complete the QOccPsych Examinations.
Candidates must complete a period of practice as an Occupational Psychologist In-Training, under the supervision of a Chartered Occupational Psychologist, which is judged by the Society to meet the criteria laid out in the Society's statutes.
The total period of training, including time spent on the MSc and supervised practice must be a minimum of three-years full time or the part time equivalent. This applies to both full-time and part-time MSc courses.
A Society accredited MSc in Occupational Psychology grants exemption from the Stage 1 and the Stage 2 Research Dimension (Part 2). You will be required to complete a minimum of two years supervised practice.
More information on the Society's Qualification in Occupational Psychology can be found on the
downloads page.
'Old' Route Log Book Assessment Candidates (pre-2007)
For those candidates who have been advised by the Society that they are on the 'old' log book assessment route to gaining Registration and Full Membership of the Division of Occupational Psychology (i.e. prior to December 2007), should go to the downloads page for further information on this route.
Supervision
All supervisors for the Society's Qualification in Occupational Psychology must be Chartered Psychologists with Full Membership of the DOP and registered with the Health Professions Council. They also must have at least two years of experience before they can supervise.
