Careers Resources

If you are looking for more information on careers in psychology, we can help!

Our careers booklet has proved useful for many people, whether it’s individuals that want a single point of reference for psychology careers, or those looking for information to hand out at a careers fair. It is aimed at pre-degree and undergraduate students and details the training required to become a Chartered Psychologist. You will also find an outline of the different areas of psychology. You can download a copy...

So You Want to be a Psychologist?

...or order multiple copies for your school, library or career event by filling in a request form.

We also produce a set of posters that give basic information on the 8 main areas of psychology, including the training required. You can order free sets of posters by completing a request form.

If you are giving a talk on psychology careers, you may find our Careers Presentation useful. This displays the training required to become a Chartered Psychologist and the areas of psychology that people can train in.

A DVD has also been produced to inform undergraduate and sixth form students about a career in Clinical Psychology. More information can be found on the Division of Clinical Psychology's website.

If you would like to help a client with a specific question, we recommend you look at the So You Want to be a Psychologist section of our website.

Directory of Voluntary Careers Speakers

The Directory of Voluntary Careers Speakers is a free service offered by the British Psychological Society to provide schools, colleges or higher education institutions with the opportunity to invite professionals working within the field of psychology to talk about their experiences. This gives students the chance to find out a bit more about Psychology, what it can offer them, and the areas of work it encompasses.

The 400+ speakers in the directory come from a variety of employment backgrounds, with a wide range of experiences and are willing to talk about their careers, their background, how they became interested in Psychology, and what they get out of it.

For contact details of voluntary speakers in your area, please send an e-mail to speakers@bps.org.uk. Please provide the date and location of the event, the number of attendees expected and their age group, if known. We'll e-mail you with a list of speakers close-by to you (or anywhere in the UK if you would prefer). The list includes details of what each speaker specialises in, so you can pick out the ones that suit you. If you any questions please call 0116 2529587.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. You can contact the Careers Information Service (tel: +44 (0)116 252 9534; e-mail: careers@bps.org.uk). We aim to reply to e-mails within two working days.

We hope you find these pages useful but please let us know if you have any suggestions on how we can improve them.
