Graduate Qualifications Accreditation Committee (GQAC)
The Graduate Qualifications Accreditation Committee (GQAC) looks at quality and strategic issues concerning undergraduate (and equivalent) training in the UK. The Committee is made up of psychologists who work in academic settings. The Committee's membership includes colleagues from England and the devolved nations. Together they are responsible for setting standards (
accreditation criteria) that all undergraduate and conversion programmes must meet. All of the Committee's work is underpinned by its accreditation criteria. The criteria are reviewed on a periodic basis.
Programmes that meet these standards are said to be accredited by the Society. The Committee accredits first qualifications in psychology and conversion programmes as conferring eligibility for the Society’s Graduate Basis for Registration (GBR), the first step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist. The GBR is an essential prerequisite for entry on to an accredited postgraduate training programme in applied psychology, or entry on to one of the Society’s own qualifications leading to Chartered Status. Graduates of accredited undergraduate and conversion programmes can apply to the Society for Graduate Membership with the Graduate Basis for Registration. Some GQAC-accredited programmes require students to study a specific pathway in order to be eligible for the GBR.
The Chair of the Committee is Dr Ruth Green (Head of Sciences, Staffordshire University). Her term of office as Chair runs from September 2005 until September 2009.
The quality assurance adviser to the Committee is Molly Ross. Please contact Molly with any queries regarding the Committee’s work.
